Auckland-based John Reynolds who’s at the moment exhibiting on the gallery, is a painter who employs, in line with his personal biography, elements of drawing and several types of illustration for poetic impact.
He additionally produces sculptures and out of doors installations and is the recipient of a Laureate Award from the Arts Basis of NZ.
In his Starkwhite exhibition, entitled ‘The moon and the flowers’, after the opening line of a haiku by Japanese haiku grandmaster Issa, he’s displaying a sequence of enormous work accompanied by small block works.
He describes his works as “moonlighting on floral themes of passing time, blue lunar cycles, and the pungency and maddening fantastic thing about our fleeting world”.
