A New Zealander on vacation in Canada has been stabbed in what seems to have been a “utterly random and unprovoked” assault, police say.
The 28-year-old vacationer was reportedly approached from behind by a person unknown to him in Vancouver’s Granville Leisure District, a downtown neighbourhood of bars, eating places, and nightclubs.
He informed police the person stabbed him on the nook of Nelson and Granville simply earlier than 8pm yesterday (Vancouver time).
The Kiwi managed to take himself to hospital for what have been described as non-life-threatening accidents.
“From what we all know to this point, this assault seems to be utterly random and unprovoked,” stated Constable Tania Visintin of the Vancouver Police Division.
Investigators are in search of a person about 165cms tall, with a medium complexion, who was carrying a white T-shirt, darkish denims, and a blue baseball cap.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, native police stated.
The Ministry of Overseas Affairs and Commerce has been approached for remark this morning.
Native information outlet Every day Hive Vancouver studies that the Granville Leisure District has been “an issue for police, with numerous violent incidents having occurred there over the previous couple of years”.
