Japanese liner Ocean Community Categorical (ONE) is trialling wind propulsion with Dutch agency Econowind. The magenta-branded containerline is ready to put in two containerised wind help gadgets, referred to as VentoFoil containers, on the Kalamazoo, a 1,036 teu feeder vessel working between Busan, Yokohama, and Honolulu.
The trial, scheduled to start in January 2024 and run for about six months, can be a complete research, with ONE intently monitoring the efficiency of the VentoFoils. Information on gasoline consumption, emissions reductions, and general operational effectivity can be collected.
“The outcomes of the trial can be used to evaluate the long-term viability of wind propulsion as a sustainable transport answer,” ONE said in a launch.
