Native chess organiser Paul Spiller has received a title on the 2023 Malaysian Chess Pageant in Kuala Lumpur.
Spiller, who’s the vice-president of the NZ Chess Federation and former president of the Oceania area and ranked a Candidate Grasp, received the Greatest Seniors (65 to 75 years) class and picked up a handbag of 1500 Malaysian Ringgit [RM] ($544.33) for his efforts. Runner-up was Singaporean Worldwide Grasp Chan Peng Kong who received RM1000.
Spiller can be a life member and secretary of the Howick-Pakuranga Chess Membership.
Grandmaster Villamayor Buenaventura of Singapore was the champion for the seniors part of the 2023 Malaysian Chess Pageant held from August 25 to September 3.
The Grandmaster completed one full level forward of his nearest rival with 7-and-a-half factors out of 9. Buenaventura took dwelling RM4000 and a challenger trophy for his efforts.
